Local School Programme
Our local school programmes aim to improve the sporting, educational, health and social wellbeing of young people through cricket and the outdoors. At our unique and magical setting at the Arundel Castle Cricket Ground we provide a range of activities and experiences that are designed to break down barriers, promote social inclusion and improve mental and physical health. Our programmes give young people the opportunity to play team sport and develop crucial life skills such as teamwork, communication and resilience alongside learning about their own wellbeing and leading a healthy lifestyle.
Our Local School Programme includes:
Wellbeing Wednesday
White Meadows are a three form primary school based in Wick, Littlehampton, just a few miles from the Castle Ground. They shared with us the difficult year that many of their students have had, with their education severely disrupted and a lack of social interaction and physical activity impacting their physical and mental health. Through ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ the school’s entire Year 6 cohort will visit Arundel during the summer taking part in a programme of activities designed to get them moving, interacting and putting smiles back on faces. Cricket coaching sessions are the cornerstone of the programme, while Yoga, bushcraft, healthy eating and play offer a unique and inspiring experience for all.
Outdoor Education Project with Bohunt Education Trust
Our partnership with Bohunt Educational Trust involves students from across their Sussex schools joining a targeted enrichment programme delivered here at Arundel and back at the school. We provide a range of cricketing, bushcraft and team building activities to those students most affected by the Covid pandemic, those who need additional support to reconnect with each other, their education and who need a personal boost to put them back on the right track. Sessions run throughout the year offering each student an ongoing level of support as they overcome the issues caused by the pandemic and resulting lockdowns and school closures, and we’ll work closely with the school to ensure that each session and the programme as a whole achieve our shared aims and objectives.
Partnership with West Sussex Alternative Provision College
We’re supporting 80 students from six Alternative Provision education centres across West Sussex. This programme, a collaboration between the Foundation, Future Proof Purpose CIC and the West Sussex Alternative Provision College uses a fusion of cricket and creativity to engage students who are unable to access mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Each participant takes part in coaching sessions here at Arundel boosting their cricketing, teamworking and other skills, all of which is then channelled into a design challenge where they create a new team identity for their respective schools. All participants play in a final tournament here at Arundel after being presented with kit featuring their team identities. The programme aims to boost cricket engagement, offer a new and enriching experience, while enhancing individual attributes such as teamwork, leadership and respect.
We welcome enquiries from schools and organisations who are interested in visiting us to create magical experiences that will inspire and enhance the education, health and wellbeing of their students. For more information please email foundation@arundelcastlecricket.co.uk
