The Summer has been hugely busy and action packed, blessed by the beautifully English Summer. Although we typically use the indoor cricket centre for wet weather rather than extreme heat!
One of the many highlights of this Summer has been a new programme we oversaw in August titled “The London Loop”. This is a free, three-day summer activity programme for children in London, centred around cricket but involving much more than cricket. It is a joint initiative involving the Surrey, Essex, Kent and Middlesex cricket organisations, supported through the ECB’s Cricket 4 London / Cricket Cities work.
Children get to take part in cricket a plethora of other activities. This year’s programme in collaboration with ACCF brought the young people to Arundel for three days, with cricket, yoga, bushcraft, first-aid training, high ropes off-site, a visit to Arundel Castle and a trip to the beach.
We worked with young people who may have fewer opportunities to access sport and holiday activities, including those from more deprived communities. The programme is designed to remove financial barriers, so participation is free. The programme focusses on children aged 9–11.
The following video, produced by Getty on behalf of the ECB and the 4 counties involved is a superb reflection of the programme content, and most importantly its impact and benefits.
